The End of Your Arrogance - Chapter 8.2
“When are you coming back, Your Majesty? It’s already been a week… You said it would only take five days!”
Nazz, buried in a pile of files, cried in pain.
Slam!
A guardsman rushed into the office.
“General, Odin Maduse just arrived in front of the gates.”
Nazz jumped up. “How is he here already?” Nazz pulled on his hair and mumbled to himself. “He had to come when His Highness is gone! This bastard, was this part of his plan?”
A loud noise sounded near the door. It was the knight bannerets rushing to the office after hearing about the arrival of the heir of Maduse.
“General, apparently there are at least forty armed soldiers out there.”
“If we let them in when His Highness isn’t here, and something gets out of hand…”
“We can’t just leave them outside. That’ll cause other problems!”
“Are we, the Black Forest Knights, afraid of those little bastards?!”
Nazz listened to the knights bickering. “First, we go to the gates. The wizard, tell that red-haired bastard to come out.”
The knights got on their horses and rushed to the gate. They slowed as they got near it. The guardsman who had been observing the arrival from the wall ran down to them.
“General!”
The guardsman led the knights to the battlement where they could see outside from up high. Nazz looked. He noticed men clothed in long religious habits. He could tell from a glance that there were easily more than forty men. He also assumed they had longswords on their waist.
Nazz was anxious. “These bastards are trying to declare war on us or what?”
The knight bannerets behind him yelled toward the men outside. “Religious habits! I thought you were knight templars.”
“I guess you all were aware that you’ll be stone at the North Coast wearing clothes of Maduse, huh?”
The knights shamed the men. Nazz’s face stiffened. He raised a hand. Silence fell.
“Reveal yourself and your affiliation.” As Nazz yelled, a man on a white horse slowly approached the front.
He carefully removed his hat. His blonde hair was dazzling in the sunlight.
I knew they were siblings, but I didn’t realize how similar they look. But he gives off a trashy aura.
“I am Odin Maduse. Son of Marquis Maduse. The wife of the Archduke of Ajauntice, Evelyn Maduse, is my sister.” Odin stated boldly.
He lifted his hand. The men in the religious habits revealed their faces. Nazz’s eyes shook as he looked through their faces.
Why is she…
The pretty black-haired woman squinted her eyes at Nazz. A tall man at the back pulled out a flag from beneath his clothes and lifted it up. The flag was that of the blue crowned priest, Maduse.
“I think that’s enough for identification.”
The eyes of the Black Forest knights flamed. As all knight bannerets already knew, these knights have all been part of the Tartar expedition.
How dare they…
Looking at their enemy’s flag flapping at the North Coast enraged the knights.
“General, are we just going to stand here? Let’s go rip that flag right now!”
“How dare they raise that flag here! I’m heading down!”
Nazz tried to calm the raging knights.
“It couldn’t be that the heroes of Tartar are afraid by merely forty knights to open the gates, could it?” asked Odin.
The knights roared in anger. Nazz looked at the young red-haired man at the back.
“Hey, wizard, they might use their magic on us so…”
The red-haired wizard looked at the gathered men. He could see a large man and the black-haired woman on a horse.
As their eyes met, the woman smiled and waved her hand. The wizard gritted his teeth and he cussed. He started to cast a spell at lightspeed.
Two large flames crashed into each other. Fire rained from the darkening sky.
“Nock the arrows!” Nazz yelled after being baffled by what just happened. The knights aimed their arrows toward the enemies outside.
“They have a wizard?”
“General, we have to gather all the knights immediately!”
Right then, the horns indicating the Archduke’s return rang across the castle.
“His Highness has returned!”
The raging knights inside the castle, and the arrogant men outside, all fell silent. From the open field, a group of Black Knights rushed closer and closer toward the castle.
