The End of Your Arrogance - Chapter 18.2
“Please come inside. My room is at the top.”
When they stepped inside, the door closed automatically with a loud thud. There were colored stones embedded in the front, and Rene placed her hand on the blue one. As the stone shone brightly, they felt a pull downwards. Dizzy, Evelyn grabbed her son’s hand. After a while, the door opened and a large space appeared in front of them.
“We’re here.”
Rene got off first. The others followed after her, looking around with curiosity. After walking along a long hallway, a drawing room appeared.
“We usually serve tea here. It’s quite old, but it’s still usable, don’t you think?”
Rene said while gesturing to the tea table. Evelyn stared with admiration at the tables and chairs made with the roots of trees.
“It’s like a house for elves.”
Rene shrugged and ushered them to their seats. Evelyn and Rene sat face to face with the tea table between them. After a while, the young man with red hair served refreshments. Tea foods brought by Evelyn were neatly laid out on colorful plates. Rene lifted the fork without being self-conscious this time, and it was the same with Evelyn. Livell sat next to his mother and ate some cake.
“Snacks, snacks, snacks.” Livell cried out every time the fork left his mouth.
“The Young Master is one fierce eater.” Rene smiled.
“I’m worried he eats too much. His stomach is about to explode even now.”
Evelyn tapped Livell’s round belly. He raised his eyebrows in annoyance. Upon seeing this, Rene burst into huge laughter.
“He looks just like His Highness with the frown, only the size is different.”
“Knight Nazz said the same thing,” said Evelyn.
“Did he also say it’s a good thing their personalities are different?”
Evelyn smiled awkwardly.
“Young human.”
The eagle that had arrived at the tower first flew toward Livell.
“Young human, come and catch me.”
“Ah, aboo, aboo.”
Livell jumped up from his seat to catch the flying bird. As the child started to run, Arthas quickly jumped to the side.
“Our stomachs are filled, and the Young Master has found himself a toy. I suppose it’s time for the adults to talk,” said Rene.
“Did you have something to tell me?” Evelyn asked.
“Yes, My Lady.”
Evelyn gestured to Belina with a glance, who was standing behind her. When only the two of them were left, Rene smiled brightly.
“My wish is to drink tea in the Elven Forest, but can you?”
Evelyn looked at her in surprise. Rene knew… that she was a hallucinologist? Evelyn’s eyes shook anxiously.
“I am a wizard. Hallucination is a part of magic.”
Her husband had said that Rene was a great wizard. Maybe she could be of help. Making up her mind, Evelyn conjured up the image of the village where the elves lived in books she had read. Large trees rose through the ceiling. Colorful flowers bloomed everywhere, fluttering in the wind. As the birds perched on the branches chirped, the leaves rustled in response.
“Wow, you’re better than I thought!” exclaimed Rene as she stood up, looking up and raising her arms to the sky. Evelyn couldn’t take her eyes off Rene, her eyes closed and muttering something in a small voice. If elves in legends had actually existed, this was how they would have looked like.
“From now on, no one can hear our conversation.” Rene said as she took her seat. Evelyn looked at her in admiration. Rene asked, “Why are you looking at me like that? You made this miracle.”
“This is just,” Evelyn muttered, “a petty trick.”
“Although hallucinologists are not rare, this kind of skill is.”
Evelyn gained some courage at her words.
“Do you… really think so?”
“Of course. I wanted to bring you here to the Wizard’s Tower, but His Highness would probably oppose it.” Rene continued after a breath. “I’m curious as to how far your skills go.”
“I don’t know how to do anything.”
“When Arthas was in battle, didn’t you use hallucinations against the giant? I know you were the one who saved Arthas.”
Evelyn’s eyes widened.
“I am the only one who knows. His Highness is unaware.”
Hesitating, Evelyn chose her words carefully.
“Actually… I can make almost anything I can think of, as long as it does not hurt anyone.”
Rene asked, “Are you saying that everything is possible except for dark hallucinations?”
Evelyn nodded.
“It should be enough… Do you want to learn dark hallucinations?”
“Yes!” Evelyn nodded. “Even just the basics would be nice, so I can use them.”
Renee narrowed her eyes and looked at Evelyn observingly.
“I don’t think there is any need to learn such a thing like that. His Highness will protect you and the Young Master.”
Evelyn let out a bitter smile.
“Nobody can protect us.”
That was what I learned the last two years… Evelyn swallowed the words and pushed them down her throat. The scars left by the hard years on her soft and youthful face could be seen at a momentary glance. Rene erased the playfulness from her expression. A cold voice echoed in the room.
“You might kill people.”
“I will do my best not to let that happen… but if it does, there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Rene was slightly marveled at her bright shining eyes that mirrored her firm will.
“For the brave Lady, this Rene will help.”
