The End of Your Arrogance - Chapter 16.1
“The wind is warm. Spring must be around the corner,” Evelyn said as she opened the window, breathing in the warm air. The garden was getting ready to be filled with unnamed flowers. Belina spoke with a solemn expression.
“My Lady, sadly, the north only has a cold winter and an even colder winter.”
Evelyn laughed. “You jest.” She stared at the empty seat beside Belina. “When do you think Arthas will come back? I miss him.”
“The brown bear, come soon,” Livell chimed.
The eagle that was playing with Livell interfered.
“Little human, do you want to see the bear, too?”
“Yes!”
The people of this place missed the pleasant knight.
“I told you, I’ll do it myself!”
“Don’t be so rash! If you cook this wrong, you’ll be crossing the river Styx!”
The sound of arguing could be heard outside. No way… Evelyn quickly ran outside, and the sight of a boy with a bulk frame chopping into wood with almost godlike skills made her eyes water.
“Arthas!”
“Arthas!”
“Bear!”
Throwing the ax to the ground, he ran to them.
“My Lady, Young Master! How have you been?”
“Arthas, are you well now? But what is that bag?” asked Evelyn.
Arthas grinned widely and raised the bag in his hand. The eagle swiftly tried to snatch it but failed, instead dropping it to the ground.
With a squishing sound, an object that looked like a light pink ball rolled out of the bag. Upon seeing the balls bouncing against the ground, Evelyn’s face grew white as if she’d seen a ghost. Livell let out a scream and hid behind Evelyn’s skirt.
“Oh no! There’s an eye and mouth. And what is the adorable little wing…?” Evelyn inquired.
“Human, it’s not a wing but a fin,” replied the eagle.
Arthus scratched his head as if embarrassed. “It seemed like you didn’t have much of an appetite. My father said that fish is nutritious for women, so I caught it.”
At his gesture, Evelyn’s eyes wavered.
“You caught this? For…me?”
“Yes, My lady. Have you ever tried it? It’s a fish called maslo, and can only be caught in the Grand Duchy.”
Evelyn shook her head. Though she wanted to eat fish after giving birth to Livell… she didn’t think she could stomach this.
“Did you break the ice to catch it? You’re really a bear.” Belina jokingly criticized Arthas.
“Human, it may look and sound unsavory… but cooked, it’s quite a treat.” The eagle said, licking its lips.
“But why are you chopping wood?” Evelyn asked.
“I was preparing some firewood to cook. We don’t know what the bad guys will do to It.” Arthas said innocently.
“Why don’t you clean the fish while you’re at it?”
“I was going to, but Knight Louis…” Arthas pointed to the man standing beside him.
Who was Knight Louis again? She had heard the name before… following Arthas’s line of vision, a man scratching at his disheveled brown hair gave a quick nod.
“He’s your guard. Though you probably have never seen his face because his specialty is stealth.”
Oh… the knight that had been assigned from the King’s royal bodyguards must have been Knight Louis.
“You must be the knight that protects us. Knight Louis, it’s nice to finally meet you.”
At her pleasant greeting, Louis lowered his head. Through his curly hair they could see that the tips of his ear had turned red, as if bashful.
“The knights have all finally come together.” Evelyn smiled widely at the three knights and the beast.
The fish noisily emitted their existence. With a sharp-edged kitchen knife in his hand, Louis announced in a solemn voice.
“Brown bear, you go catch that. I’ll do the cooking.”
The fish caught by Arthas let out desperate screams. While everyone had their hands over their ears in pain, only the eagle delicately covered Livell’s ears.
Arthas hit the bag itself against the firewood and the screams slowly died out. Was it dead? It looked cute for a fish… Evelyn didn’t want to look.
“The maslo has poison in its body so not everyone can cook it.”
Evelyn slowly raised her head as Louis chopped off the fish’s head with the sharp knife. Cutting off the tail and fin skillfully, he made cuts in the body. He put his hand between the cut and skillfully pulled out the bag of poison. Evelyn, looking at his masterful hands with curiosity, quickly blocked her nose with her hand.
“Ugh, I think I might throw up. It almost smells like it’s rotten…”
“Forgot to say. Smells nasty when the poison comes out. Disappears when cooked with fire.”
The eagle said nonchalantly, this time covering up Livell’s nose.
Louis brought out a large plate of iron from the kitchen and, after adding the cooking oil, placed it on the fire. He coated the cleaned fish with a white powder and started frying it on the iron. At the sight of him throwing in an unknown sauce and vegetables, Evelyn was in awe. What kind of knight had such cooking skills?
