Tamed the Monster Prince - Chapter 2.1
She desired to hasten to him and implore him. She longed to express her emotions with a loud outcry. In contrast to those who had loathed her from the start, he never did that to her. He should not have acted in such a way. He was like a prisoner in the palace, scared of the public and thunder, unable to confront anyone except her. He treated her as if she were the only thing that mattered in the world.
Once the spell was broken, he departed.
For two years, she wrote him letters on a daily basis, using her gift of insight to caution him of potential hazards and inquire about his well being. On occasion, she questioned if he was also preoccupied with her in thought. Nevertheless, no response was ever received.
Did you view me in the same manner as others who have been disrespectful towards me?
It is possible that he was unable to accept the humiliation of marrying a woman as destitute as her once the curse was lifted. She is a destitute orphan who serves as a maidservant or concubine in the Flores family, and she even has a disability in her legs. A figure that would befit the murderous prince who had taken the lives of several women.
She was unable to acclimate to the lifestyle of the prince who had grown accustomed to it.
“Discard any thought of being a princess, particularly in regards to Prince Cesar.”
Geovineta revealed that she had a relationship with Irene’s spouse, Cesar. As a result, Cesar opted to pursue the former, thus leaving Irene behind.
“Despite his love for me, I felt that it was not sufficient.”
Her conviction was palpable in her voice.
Irena attempted to depart the prince’s abode, asserting that things would return to their usual state.
Trapped in the palace like a phantom, she silently tolerated the Empress’ and court ladies’ caustic remarks as she roamed the castle. In stark contrast, the beautiful and distinguished Geovineta received admiration from the social elite.
Geovineta, who was the daughter of a government official and was well-loved by her parents, had a life of privilege and abundance. This made it all the more difficult for Irena to accept when her husband was taken away by Geovineta.
A grand banquet will soon be held in honor of Cesar’s victory and safe return to the palace, with Geovineta standing beside him, impeccably dressed and radiant. Irena had expected this to be the case, yet she was taken aback when tears began to flow from her eyes despite her reluctance.
That’s when it happened.
The carriage abruptly halted, accompanied by an ear-splitting sound. Irena peered out the window to discern the cause of the commotion, however the rain had obscured her view. The curtains of the carriage were drawn open, and the coachman cried out in distress.
“It’s an attack!”
“An attack? Are they robbers?”
She glanced at the guardsman and the coachman who was in a rush beside her, inquiringly. However, they simply lowered their heads in quietude.
“Remain here while I investigate the area.”
The guardsman appeared to be taken aback by her response. He unsheathed his sword and shut the carriage door firmly.
Her pulse was racing rapidly. She felt that she would vocalize something if she spoke, so she kept her lips sealed.
She detected a faint, rough voice in the distance. Could it be a gang of thieves attempting to steal the luggage, or perhaps someone had been dispatched to cause her harm…
She felt a sense of unease and apprehension, her palms becoming clammy with fear. Recalling the guard’s warning not to leave, yet her desire was still fervent.
She perceived the noise of metal clashing from afar. If this onslaught was to prove fatal, would she be sheltered in this location?
Is the guardsman still in existence? Or perhaps he was engaging in combat with the assailants…
Dismissing her musings, she was jolted by a distant shriek, taking it as a cue, she hastily shut the carriage door and dashed out.
The sound of the battle echoed in the darkness, obscuring visibility and the rain. This could be her only opportunity; the chill of the rain droplets seeping through her clothing was of no concern.
She pondered on where to go and eventually decided to venture to a nearby forest, lowering her body to the ground as she did so.
“Hey! The carriage is empty!”
“Look carefully!”
“Please hurry up and finish the task at hand.”
