Mental Protector in the Apocalypse - Chapter 5.1
She rose from his chair automatically upon seeing the sight. Fortunately, the door was locked, so it did not open, yet her spine still prickled. What was this? Was there someone outside? Occasionally, the sound of zombies passing by could be heard, yet due to their lack of intelligence, they were not concerned.
It appeared as though someone was knocking on the door and turning the doorknob. It was unclear whether it was a human or not. However, it seemed unlikely that a rational individual would be present in this area, known to be populated by zombies.
‘…Could it be a mutant zombie?’
It was evident that there were various types of mutated zombies present. What could it be? The doorknob ceasing to turn was heard, followed by footsteps. The sound of something coming into contact with the window at the end of the corridor was also heard. Such has been followed by something being dragged. Due to the darkness and the curtains being closed, the exact details were not visible.
“Dammit!”
Her gaze was directed in that direction as her hands moved swiftly to the desk. She noticed a pencil case containing scissors and a cutter, which she delicately took hold of with her fingertips and firmly grasped. She felt a slight relief to have a tool in her possession, even though it would not be sufficient to protect her from a mutant zombie.
The noise faded away, and all that was left was a hush. It was evident that something was lurking outside, leaving one to wonder if it was aware that someone was inside.
The mutant zombies had a range of abilities, including heightened senses, a wide field of vision, agility, intelligence, strength, and physical mutations. It was impossible to escape their detection once they were spotted. The individual in question was tense, sweating heavily, and unable to act until they identified the type of mutant outside.
‘This is insane. What is going on?’
She could no longer detect the presence of the typical zombies that she was accustomed to hearing. It was eerily silent.
It occurred to her that each of them must possess something unique.
She was conscious of their intelligence upon observing their attempts to open doors. Was it possible that they were a mutated zombie? Nevertheless, the silence was disquieting.
It was remarkable to observe a hierarchy among the zombies. The ordinary zombies were of a lower rank than the mutated ones, who had a real presence that the unintelligent zombies naturally steered away from. However, the intelligent zombies had no aura and shrewdly blended in with the ordinary zombies, taking advantage of any opportunity to capture humans.
Could this kind of zombie’s lack of strength be attributed to his battling the more aggressive zombies? Had it been him, likely, the area would not be as peaceful as it is now, as he would have been able to take on even the regular zombies. She began to wonder what other type of creature could be present. Suddenly, a thought crossed her mind.
‘Wait a minute… No way? A, could it be that guy…?’
Her concentration was disrupted, and she experienced a sudden chill. Her body tensed, and her head felt dizzy, yet she mustered the strength to move and face whatever was behind her.
Upon her arrival, she was met with a startling sight; she observed a skeletal figure split in two, with a zombie bearing decomposing skin and a black aura. Her shock was so profound that she could not even utter a scream; instead, she gasped and stumbled backward. She inadvertently pushed a chair against the wall in haste, creating a loud noise. The falling medicine bottles struck her, and she quickly got on her hands and knees. She then grabbed the chair leg and thrust it in the zombie’s direction.
‘Damn it, damn it!’
No physical pain was felt, only fear. Her breath became shallow, and her body shook. As she attempted to bolster her courage, she felt the cold touch of scissors and a cutter. Despite this, she couldn’t help but find humor in the fact that she was still standing. Yet, she simultaneously felt like she wanted to cry at her inability to overcome him with just this.
She is uncertain about what is occurring and is inquiring about the purpose of the individual’s presence.
Her hands were shaking as she attempted to lower them to the ground, and then she noticed his feet in her line of vision.
“Ha, you…”
she applied pressure to his ankle with the scissors she was holding.
“Kyaaa!!”
She was forced to block out his cries of agony as the windows of the medical room were broken due to the intensity of his utterances.
She is feeling quite faint.
What is the reasoning behind the mid-boss appearing at this time? They expected to emerge during the transition from day two to day three at midnight. What is the cause of their arrival now?
“Sis… what’s going on?”
