The End of Your Arrogance - Chapter 19.2
Selice’s maid poured hot water into Evelyn’s teacup. Her heart that Rene had touched earlier seemed to be throbbing again, so she pressed her hand to her chest.
Selice, who was watching Evelyn carefully, asked, “Are you alright?”
“I’m feeling a bit under the weather.”
Selice narrowed her eyes.
“Are you…pregnant again?”
Evelyn almost let out a burst of laughter. Although she spent her nights together with him… It was not strange that people got the wrong idea.
Evelyn shook her head, “It’s not that.”
After the maid poured the hot water from the teacup, she poured tea that was red as blood. Belina and Arthas were staring intently at the teacup.
Selice smiled kindly like a mother worried for her daughter. “You can’t be too careful.”
“What do you mean?” Evelyn asked.
When Selice pulled out a cigarette, the maid standing next to her lit it. After taking a deep drag from the cigarette, she said, “He’s my nephew, but he’s really heartless. I heard he never even hugged the child you birthed? I saw him before and he’s quite grown.”
Evelyn paled. The memories of that night that she had buried so deep came flooding back.
[Get him out of my face.]
[I thought he wasn’t my son.]
She bit down on her lips to prevent the tears from falling.
“He’s already treating his son like that. We can see what will happen to the second child. You poor thing, you’re quite misfortunate.”
Selice clicked her tongue. Belina and Arthas’s expressions were turned to stone at her rudeness. After a while, Evelyn spoke.
“I disagree, Aunt Selice. Whatever happens, if I can be by his side, it is enough.”
“Ha! What great love. But are all women from the middle east like that?”
Evelyn tilted her head, not knowing what to say.
“Whispering a thousand years of love, and meeting another man behind his back.”
Arthas was an apprentice knight, so he did not know the circumstances of the Grand Castle, but Belina, a senior knight, was different. The other man that Selice was talking about was the former Archduke Nasir Ajauntice. Ever since Evelyn came to the Grand Duke with a newborn baby, rumors of his coveting his brother’s wife had swept the Grand Duke. Even Belina, who wielded only a sword at the gym every day, knew about it, so everyone in the Grand Duchy would be aware of the scandal between the two.
Having seen both the former archduke and Evelyn, Belina was able to bet her sword on the absurdity of the rumor. Belina’s eyes widened with the raging urge to cut Selice alive at any moment. Noticing that Belina was acting strange, Evelyn opened her mouth.
“I don’t know who did such a stupid thing…I only have one man. It has been and will always be.”
Despite speaking of eternal love, Evelyn’s eyes were empty. Selice snorted after taking another deep drag of the cigarette.
“I hope the archduke is quickly aware of this great love.”
Looking at Evelyn’s teacup, she urged, “The tea is getting cold, drink up.”
Evelyn slowly picked up the teacup and savored the scent. Belina shook her head with a stiff expression from behind. Selice snorted, “Do you think I poisoned it or something?”
Despite the anger in her tone, Evelyn did not get scared and remained calm. “Of course not. What is the name of this tea?” she replied.
“I got it as a gift so I don’t know, but I know it’s tea that you need right now.”
Evelyn drank the whole thing in one gulp without a moment’s hesitation. Belina and Arthas watched this with dismay. After emptying the glass, Evelyn slowly opened her mouth to speak.
“It’s a rare tea. The taste and scent is very unique.”
“I’m glad you like it.” Selice let out a hearty laugh and leaned in. “It was so fun talking to you after such a long time that I forgot why I came here in the first place.”
Evelyn asked, “What is it, Aunt Selice?”
“You know that I spend every spring here,” said Selice.
Even after the marriage, Selice used the room of the Grand Duchess since she was a virgin. Nasir was single, and Ilya had no daughter, so the Grand Duchess’s room was empty. Every spring, Selice used to stay for several months in the Grand Duchess’s room as an excuse to recuperate. Pretending to be the Grand Duchess, the servants and maids of the Grand Duchess suffered immensely every spring.
“Yes, I am aware,” Evelyn nodded.
“I tend to the main building every time I’m here, but I never like it. I suppose it is unavoidable because the seat of the Grand Duchess is vacant.”
Evelyn lowered her eyes. Selice’s eyes gleamed at this.
“Ah, I shouldn’t have said anything. In any case, there are not enough people to work, as the place needs fixing up here and there.”
Evelyn raised her head at an ominous feeling.
“So I was wondering…let me borrow your maid.”
Sophie was Evelyn’s maid she had brought from her parent’s house when she got married. It was nonsense to take Sophie like that and get her to do something else.
