The End of Your Arrogance - Chapter 19.1
Rene stood from where she was sitting and walked to Evelyn’s side.
“Can you stand up for a moment?” she asked.
Evelyn did as told. Rene placed a hand on Evelyn’s heart and for a moment, Rene’s hand pierced her skin as if she was trying to pull out her heart alive.
A painful moan escaped Evelyn’s mouth, but Rene kept at it, pressing her hand with more strength. White smoke rose from where she had placed her hand. Evelyn grabbed the arm of the chair and withstood the pain, cold sweat dripping down her white face.
She didn’t know how long it lasted. Rene retreated her hand, and placed Evelyn on her chair, where she sagged. While pulling the hair stuck to her forehead, Rene whispered, “You already have dark mana in your heart. You are a natural dark magician.”
Evelyn’s eyes rounded in surprise at the unbelievable words.
“There was probably a time when the mana exploded outside,” Rene added.
“What…do you mean?” Evelyn mumbled in a hoarse voice. “There’s no way…I could do something like that.”
“My lady, the number of dark magicians is low. Do you know the reason for this?” Rene asked.
“No…I don’t.”
Rene broke into a smile.
“Most dark magicians die at the hands of their parents before their awakening. They are instinctively repulsed by the natural dark mana.”
“My parents never…”
Evelyn shut her mouth. Your father never tried to kill you? Did you forget that night already?
She didn’t remember when exactly it had happened, but she knew it was a stormy night. Evelyn and Sophie were hiding in a closet to avoid the violence of Marquis Maduse. The two hugged each other and trembled at the screams of Sophie’s older sister who failed to hide herself.
After hesitating for a long time, Evelyn ran out and bit her father’s forearm. The results of the courage she took for the first time in her life were disastrous. As her daughter, she had stupidly believed that he wouldn’t be able to kill her.
[You should be grateful I raised you at all, you useless girl!]
She was dragged around the mansions with her hair caught in his hands and thrown down in front of a staircase that seemed endless. She couldn’t remember anything after that.
The Marquis Maduse was given a new nickname after that night. The Limp King.
Evelyn wrapped her arms around herself and trembled. At that moment, the trees that were boasting green, the smell of the fresh forest, and the chirping of birds forever disappeared.
“Are you satisfied with my answer, my lady?”
Renee smiled brightly as she looked at Evelyn, who had turned pale.

All the way back in the carriage, Evelyn’s complexion did not regain its color.
Sophie, who was stroking the sleeping Livell, asked with a worried face, “My lady, did something happen with Rene?”
“Nothing happened,” Evelyn tried to smile. “I’m just a bit tired from the outing.”
When the carriage suddenly stopped, their eyes widened.
“Did we arrive already? We’re still at the entrance,” muttered Sophie.
It was loud outside the carriage. When Evelyn lowered the window to see what was going on, Belina came to the carriage’s side.
“My lady, there’s a guest; it’s the Majesty’s aunt, Countess Glen.”
A lady dressed in fancy clothes approached Evelyn’s carriage, her maids scurrying behind her. The knights surrounding the carriage tensed because of the orders Nazz had given.
[Countess Glen is a problematic woman, so prevent her from approaching her lady. However, since she is a member of the Imperial Family, don’t do anything to distress her directly.]
The knights were walking on eggshells. A voice as calm as water was heard from the carriage.
“I’m going to come out, since it’s not polite to greet her from inside.”
When Evelyn got off the carriage, Selice came right up to her. Evelyn greeted her with a calm face, “It’s been a while, Aunt Selice.”
“It’s my brother’s anniversary, so I stopped by but came back in vain. Since I’m older now, it’s not so easy to visit the grave.” Selice complained in a theatrical tone.
Evelyn took a step closer to her and spoke softly, “It was good of you to come. Let’s head inside.”
They walked together from the entrance of the annex. Selice, who was walking alongside Evelyn, suddenly stopped. She pointed at the ditch and cried in outrage, “Isn’t there a gardener here? Why is the pond like that again?”
“There is no one to manage the pond water,” Evelyn replied, “It costs a lot of money.”
The pond was an excuse to plant people in the annex. Seeing Selice with a frown, Evelyn thought how consistent she was. Hiding her complicated feelings, Evelyn continued speaking in a muffled voice.
“As you can see, this is my situation… It’s a bit difficult to even say these things to the head maid.”
“You should have told me! You frustrating girl, I’ll tell the head maid myself.”
“Thank you for your concern, Aunt Selice.”
Belina and Arthas, who were quietly following them, met each other’s eyes. Both of them looked confused at the unexpected heartwarming moments.
After the walk, the two arrived at the drawing room and sat down. A smile filled Selice’s face.
“Let’s drink the tea I brought,” she said.
