The End of Your Arrogance - Chapter 12.1
Listening quietly to the man, Evelyn stepped forward.
“I want to meet my brother,” she said.
“Absolutely not,” Ilya replied firmly.
Evelyn did not retreat. She looked straight into his eyes. “It will just take a moment.”
“Then meet at my place.”
“I have something to say to him, privately.”
Ilya narrowed his eyes and looked at Evelyn. He knew she hated her family. He figured she must have her own reason to want to meet her brother. Ilya sighed. He turned to the giant of a man.
“Go tell your master that she can come to his sister’s place if he wants to talk.”
“Thank you for your kindness.” The man bowed.

The next day, in the evening, Evelyn waited for Odin in the guest room.
“My Lady, the servant who tried to kill the Young Master, was the brother of a guardsman who died in Tatar. What do we do?”
Every time the face of the servant, who tried to kill her son, surfaced in her mind, she felt the blood boil inside her. Although better than the castle in Maduse, this place was still not completely safe for Livell.
I must leave this place with my baby as soon as possible. But first, I need to settle a business with the Marquis of Maduse…
Evelyn now knew what she had to do. Odin Maduse, her foolish brother, would play a part in this. Odin only became an heir because the Marquis killed his eldest son. Although he was drunk with the sweet taste of power for the moment, she knew that, in his heart, he was terrified that his father would betray and sacrifice him like how he had sacrificed his elder brother.
She planned to use his worries and create a conflict of interest. She would offer him a deal like she had offered her husband. Her palms were sweating, and she kept wiping it on her dress.
“My lovely sister. How are you?”
She heard his sweet voice. As she turned, she saw a man with marvelous blond hair and light green eyes, just like hers. It was time to act the part of a naïve sister.
“Brother Odin.” Evelyn forced a smile and got up from her seat. He walked across the room towards her.
“I can’t believe you are a mother now.”
“You didn’t come to the wedding. That made me so sad, Odin.”
Odin hugged Evelyn with warmth. Evelyn hugged him back. As the two sat down, Sophie brought them some tea. Odin picked up a cup and smiled.
“Are you not going to show me my nephew?”
“He carries the blood of Aujantice. He’s my son but… I don’t have such power.”
Odin put down his cup hard on the table. His gentleness disappeared.
“Confining his first-born and only son in the annex? I heard there recently was an attempt to poison him too!” Odin raged. His veins popped in his neck.
“You received the news, too. Too quickly, if you don’t mind me saying so.”
“There’s bound to be one or two servants who can’t keep their mouths sealed.” Odin’s sweet voice tore into Evelyn’s ear.
“Let’s go back to the Maduse castle, Evelyn. Mother… wishes to see your face again before she passes away.”
Ha, of course she would. Evelyn laughed inwardly.
“Unfortunately, I cannot move from this place. Also… I do not wish to leave His Highness.”
Odin laughed maniacally. “Do you really love the man who treats you no less than a whore?”
Belina and Arthus reached for their sword. “His Highness… is my one and only love. He is then and he is now.”
Evelyn spoke as she acted like the most pitiful woman in the world. Odin clicked his tongue and tossed a small box on the table.
“It’s a gift from mother.”
Belina, who had been standing behind, stepped forward. “Madam, I will open it for you.”
Inside the small box was a ruby necklace. Meticulously crafted golden flower petals encircled the ruby.
“Globe amaranth,” Evelyn muttered. “In the flower language, it means unchanging love. It’s the flower she always placed in her boudoir. Mother hasn’t changed. Other than that, what are you going to do?”
Odin took a sip of the tea. “What do you mean?”
Evelyn ignored his question. She picked up the necklace. “I want to try it on. Could you help me?”
“Of course, my lovely sister.” He smiled and got up from his seat. The knights looked at Evelyn, she raised her hand to stop them.
