The End of Your Arrogance - Chapter 10.2
Evelyn and Sophie both hugged the baby. The eagle spread its wings. Clang! Belina hastily blocked the dark aura with her sword.
“Arthus, don’t kill him! The back…” Belina yelled as Arthus lifted his sword again. Arthus closed his eyes and jumped towards the servant.
Bang! Two bodies slammed against each other. The servant then flew into the wall. Something cracked as the servant spat blood from his mouth.
“He bit his tongue.” Belina mumbled with a helpless face.
“I put Madam and the Young Master in danger by hesitating…”
Arthus punched his head with his bear-like palms. The young man’s eyes were bloodshot.
“You’re just a squire. I’ll take all the responsibility. And it’s okay now. Everyone is safe.” Belina patted Arthus’s shoulder.

The eagle spread its wings and growled. “Were you planning to die rushing to the baby like that?” it asked Evelyn.
Evelyn could not hear anything as she held the baby close to her. She rocked back and forth in a daze. The baby had fallen asleep crying.
Ilya walked across the room towards her. “Evelyn, snap out of it!” he grabbed her shoulders to shake her awake. Evelyn looked at Ilya blankly.
“Your Excellency. There was poison in Livell’s food.”
“Are you okay?”
Ilya examined her from head to toe. He wouldn’t even look at Livell.
“You…have no concern…for our son, do you?” Evelyn mumbled helplessly. “It’s fine, I already know.”
“Evelyn, I…”
Even if his kid had died…this coldblooded man wouldn’t have shed a tear. She felt a big hole form in her chest.
The annex was busy in the middle of the night. The knights searched the place thoroughly. All the servants and maids were examined and those who appeared suspicious were taken away.
After the doctor finished the checkup, Evelyn took some sleeping pills and fell asleep. Ilya pulled his hair as he sat in the dining room.
“The doctor says it’s a common poison. Easily accessible.”
“I see.”
“And the culprit turned out to be the older brother…of the fallen guardsman from Tatar’s rift.”
Ilya frowned. “They intentionally chose him.”
Nazz looked serious. “Your Highness, I’m saying this as the grandmaster.”
“Speak.”
“You must cover up this one. If you dig deeper, it will trouble the knights.”
“Tracing it wouldn’t be easy since the criminal is dead.”
Nazz carefully asked. “Is Madam troubling you?”
He recalled Evelyn sitting there blankly with the kid in her arms. You almost died, you idiot. You can’t die like that. Not now…
He looked lost, like a child who had lost his mother.

For the next few days, Ilya was extremely busy. Today was no exception. When he was finally able to catch a breath after the endless duties, he dropped into the office sofa in exhaustion.
“How’s Evelyn?” he asked.
“She had been anxious. She hasn’t taken her eyes off the young master. She isn’t getting much sleep, nor does she eat well,” the butler replied with a troubled face.
Ilya blankly stared at the air, then suddenly stood up.
“Your Highness, you have a meeting with the liegemen this afternoon.”
“Postpone it.”
Ilya quickly rode his horse towards the annex.
“Your Highness!”
The people bowed to the duke in surprise for this unexpected visit. As she looked around for Evelyn, Sophie saw him.
“Madam is in the garden right now,” she informed him.
Sophie led Ilya to the oak tree in the garden. Beneath the giant tree, Evelyn sat with her son in her arms. The eagle sat on a branch, watching over them with its shiny eyes.
“What are you doing here?”
As a large shadow fell on her, Evelyn lifted her head. Why are you here right now… Evelyn’s eyes widened.
