Tamed the Monster Prince - Chapter 1.2
“Long live Prince Cesar!”
“Hail Cesar!”
His hair, darker than the evening sky, blew in the wind. His features were sharp, with a clear gaze, fair skin, and a red in his eyes that reminded people of a ripe fruit from a walnut tree.
He looked more like a wandering poet who had torn off his roots than a young general who had won countless victories.
It was a pleasure to see his face again after such a long time.
In the end, the tears that had gathered in her eyes fell to the ground. She couldn’t stop the sobs that escaped her lips, as she realized that all she was allowed to do was watch him from this distant tower.
Luckily, the cheers of the people drowned out her cries. He wouldn’t have heard her anyway.
At that moment, Cesar turned around unexpectedly.
Without realizing it, she froze. It felt as if he had looked her way, even though she knew it was impossible for her to be seen from such a distance.
Even when they were close, he had never understood her pain.
That’s when an attendant approached her.
“It’s time for you to leave now.”
“I understand… “
She forced a smile and nodded. She took a deep breath, and walked away with unsteady steps.
Leaving the capital was surprisingly easy. She boarded the carriage prepared for her by the royal palace and set off towards the outskirts. After all, it was they who had ordered her to leave, so it was only natural.
She had only a small bag of necessities, the minimal possessions she had been allowed to take with her. And, in name only, a few guards accompanied her. Their purpose was not to protect her, but to keep watch over her.
It was a far cry from the life she had once known, but it was still the privilege of a princess. In a way, it was a stark reminder of how dire her current circumstances were.
She never thought it would come to this. Her life had always been like this, with nothing to call her own and even what she had been given taken away.
As she journeyed away from the capital, she couldn’t help but recall the dazzling image of him. Yes, now he was no longer the monstrous being he once was. The rough edges that once marred his appearance were now gone, and in their place stood a handsome and charming man.
His true nature, once hidden by his monstrous exterior, was now revealed as gentle and affectionate. With his inherent nobility and newfound strength, he was truly a force to be reckoned with.
The current Emperor, who doted on his wife, Queen Cornelya, favored her son, the second Prince, even more. So, when the first Prince showed signs of rebellion, the Emperor didn’t fully trust him.
From the start, the Emperor had treated the cursed first Prince as if he didn’t exist. Thus, it was easy for him to test him. In reality, this expedition was no different from sending the Prince to his death. For the Emperor, it was a win-win situation, whether the Prince died or was captured.
Everyone, including herself, had thought that the Prince would certainly die. That’s why she had to hold on to him tightly.
“Cesar, you’ll die if you go. Please, don’t go.”
He used to listen to her words, but now he seemed to have changed. He coldly shrugged her off, not even sparing her a glance as she clung to his sleeve.
“I’ll be back, I promise.”
With those words, he left her, tears streaming down her face. She knew she was being selfish, but she couldn’t help but wish that he would just get hurt, just a little. If only he would come back to her, holding her close and regretting not listening to her words. But deep down, she knew that it was impossible.
The voice of resentment echoed through the carriage as it made its way out of the capital. If he had just lived a mediocre life, cursed as he was, perhaps things would have turned out differently. If he had, this never would have happened—the betrayal of leaving her for another woman, and worse yet, for his own sister.
The rain pattered against the windows, mirroring the darkness that had descended upon her heart. Her tears flowed freely as she whispered, “You monster.”
He had left her behind.
