How to Survive as the Wife of the Monster Duke - Chapter 242
It seemed he hadn’t returned yet. Ilyin noticed a hint of amusement in his still chilly expression.
“When he returns, I should comfort him,” Ilyin remarked.
“He will undoubtedly be pleased,” Aegis replied.
After a brief farewell, Aegis extended his hand to her. Assisted by the loyal knight’s escort, Ilyin boarded the carriage and took a deep breath.
“You have nothing to worry about,” Aegis reassured her just before closing the carriage door.
Ilyin’s eyes widened slightly as she turned to him and smiled. “Thank you.”
Indeed, Delrose would be fine. It wasn’t the Terry tribe, and it wasn’t made of Terry’s tribe essence. But why, then, had the winter monsters, which had never emerged from the sun before, suddenly begun to appear?
Delrose was investigating, but there was still no word. Considering the essence, it would be wiser to assume that it was born here rather than leaped all the way from the distant winter to the southern sun.
But how on earth did winter monsters come into existence in the sun?
He heee hee!
The carriage slowly began to move. Ilyin gazed out the window at the landscape that was starting to pass by.
It would appear soon.
It felt somewhat like this before, when she was pursued by assassins alongside Aden.
But this time, she wasn’t as nervous. We’ll be safe. Ilyin tightly held Delrose’s necklace in her hands.
“We’re about to arrive,” Etra, who had been riding in the carriage with her, said as she turned her gaze outside.
Ilyin tilted her head slightly. How could Etra possibly know when she hadn’t had that dream?
“It seems there’s no sign of small animals outside,” Etra continued.
Ilyin looked outside and confirmed it. Even the sounds of crickets had disappeared, leaving only the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Lady Elret’s knights had lit torches to illuminate the way, but not far ahead, the light was abruptly cut off.
The forest path continued beyond that point, yet it was the same there.
“What’s that?” Ilyin said softly.
She could see something in the distance where a brazier should have been placed, but there was no fire.
In front of them, faintly illuminated by the light reflected from another brazier, something had collapsed. The first thing Ilyin noticed was a stick, which seemed to have been on fire. And the one who had fallen, holding that stick…
“Pardon me, lady.”
Thunk.
The blinds on the carriage window came down. Etra, who had lowered her hand, placed it on the hilt of her sword.
She had better eyesight than Ilyin, and she must have seen it clearly. The fallen figure was a knight, bearing significant wounds on his abdomen and face. It was likely a direct sign of something grave. From his posture, it seemed he had been taken down without much resistance.
“He’s nearby.” Ilyin clutched Delrose’s necklace once more.
“Please be cautious,” Ilyin cautioned, prompting a wry smile from Etra.
“You need not worry, lady. Stay in the carriage.”
Etra opened the carriage door. As she quickly jumped out of the carriage, Aegis, who had been riding alongside on his horse, closed the carriage door once more. In between, they exchanged brief greetings.
“All troops, be on alert!” Etra’s resolute voice echoed through the surroundings, just as it had in the dream. She was probably wielding her sword. Ilyin stared intently at the blinds, as if she could see through them.
Clang!
In the distance, there was a sound as if a sword had collided with something. There were no cries, though… Ilyin closed her eyes. With her eyes closed, the sounds seemed to grow louder, and her imagination was more stimulated. Just in case, just in case.
Finally, Ilyin slightly raised the blinds to take a peek. There was no one injured among Delrose’s entourage. The figures on the ground were all small terriers, and they looked smaller than expected. Their scales didn’t seem as tough as she had imagined.
“Strike them!” A thunderous voice resounded from a distance. Ilyin felt that the voice was trembling somehow.
Amid von Loen.
Ilyin saw that Amid was rushing towards the spot she had just observed. His demeanor was entirely different from that of Aegis and Etra, who had drawn their swords and ridden on. It looked awkward to Ilyin that he was running towards them while wielding a sword.
Why on earth was he running here with a sword at this particular moment?
Ilyin narrowed her eyes.
The situation ended quickly, despite Amid’s thunderous shout. Delrose’s entourage wouldn’t have struggled against creatures like Terry. Before the knights brought by Amid could swing their swords, the commotion in their surroundings had already ceased.
“Are you alright?”
The carriage door was slightly opened, and as always, Etra was the first to ensure Ilyin’s safety. Ilyin nodded slightly as she lowered the blinds.
“Is Prince Amid outside?”
“Yes.”
Etra replied with a composed expression, but Ilyin recognized the same expression she had worn in the dream. Ilyin chuckled softly, knowing how she felt.
“It seems that the situation outside… isn’t suitable for receiving visitors.”
Ilyin peered outside through the gap in the door.
“I will have the area cleaned up,” Etra said with a firm nod. Delrose’s knights were experienced in clearing the battlefield. Of course, they didn’t clear the field for Amid; it was just because Ilyin didn’t seem inclined to receive guests from inside the carriage.
Ilyin raised the blinds again and looked outside. Delrose’s knights had already cleared away all traces of the monsters from her field of vision.
It was when Ilyin had slightly opened the window.
“Oh, Viscountess Biflten!”
Amid looked surprised when he saw her.
“Were you not very startled?”
“I’m fine.”
Ilyin nodded slightly.
“Lady, everything is ready.”
Etra opened the door. As she extended her hand to assist Ilyin’s exit, she hesitated and withdrew it when she saw the state of her hand.
“I apologize, madam.”
Her hand was stained with blood. Ilyin’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Etra, are you okay?”
“Oh, it’s not my blood.”
